A local builder, in the truest sense

Winchester Builders
When you contact Winchester Builders, you are dealing with Gordon Backhouse — the person who will look after your project from the first conversation to the finished job.
Gordon’s building skills were learnt from a lineage of tradesmen, and they have not been forgotten. The business has been established in Winchester and the Meon Valley for over 40 years, carrying out building and decoration works of small to medium sizes, from design to planning to build.
Every job is taken on personally and worked on one contract at a time, to give each client 100% of the time. It is a deliberately small way of working: no layers of management, no hand-offs to strangers, and a builder who knows your project in detail.
Where a project needs specialist trades — plasterers, plumbers or electricians — Gordon coordinates them on site, so the work happens in the right order and you have one point of contact throughout.

Client reviews
In our clients’ own words.
Winchester Builders have been truly brilliant both in terms of workmanship, thoughtfulness and attention to detail. We had a small extension built, plus other extensive renovation work, which included new bathrooms, kitchen, rewiring and plumbing, plus external landscaping. They are very knowledgeable, highly skilled and have great problems solving skills – often suggesting better and usually less expensive ways of achieving the same outcome. Very hardworking, so considerate and extremely tidy. We thoroughly enjoyed having them here and found the whole project such a positive experience. I’d have no hesitation recommending them.
I’m delighted to add to Gordon’s 5 star reviews. What do you want from a builder? Gordon is a delight to have around, his work is impeccable and clean and he is delightful to chat with. He arrived early and punctually each day and project managed the other contractors brilliantly (Plasterer, plumber, electrician). When problems arose, as they inevitably do, Gordon was always thinking of, and discussing, the resolution options. The project completed to time, to budget, and with remarkably few stressful moments. I’d highly recommend.
I thoroughly recommend Winchester Builders. The work they have done has been completed beautifully and the finish is high end excellent. The guys are pleasant and trustworthy – a joy to have around, give great advice and always leave the house tidy before they leave. The tradespeople they collaborate with have also all been excellent. I would not consider using anyone else for a project and have recommended them highly to friends and family.
In terms of craftsmanship, technical knowledge, project management and customer focus, Winchester Builders exemplify excellence in all the aforementioned areas. Quite simply, they place the client at the heart of everything they do and deliver a product second to none.
